Optimal power flow solution considering wind integration using dance bee colony with dynamic step

Abstract

This article investigates the adaptation and application of a flexible variant-based dance bee colony (DBC) with dynamic step size for solving the optimal power flow (OPF) in the presence of multi wind sources. The particularity of the proposed planning strategy is that the active and reactive power generated by the wind sources to be dynamically exchanged with the network are optimised individually and simultaneously in coordination with other control variables such as: voltage and reactive power of generating units, and tap transformers. Four objective functions have been considered, fuel cost, emission, power loss and voltage deviation. The effectiveness of the proposed OPF is validated on the IEEE 30-bus power system for different objective functions. Results found compared to recent techniques proves the ability of the proposed planning strategy-based DBC for solving practical OPF problems considering the integration of wind sources.
