Abstract

The World Trade Organization (WTO) was born out of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), which was established in 1947. Its main function is to ensure smooth cross-border flow of goods and services, capital, labour, technology, information and ideas through agreed terms and conditions among the member countries. The WTO publications contend that membership provides numerous benefits for all members; but in the empirical literature there is also some criticism of WTO. So as to analyse effects of WTO authors combined the results on their basic analysis of the consequences of WTO for Russian automotive industry with results from several papers in the field.
