Factors influencing user acceptance of the knowledge management system: a knowledge broker's perspective

Abstract

Enterprises use the knowledge management system (KMS) to support their knowledge activities and to increase their benefits by effective knowledge sharing. To achieve this goal, they endeavour to encourage their employees to engage in effective knowledge activities. Some efforts have been made in understanding the factors influencing a user's knowledge contributing or seeking behaviour. However, exploring factors from a knowledge broker's perspective has been ignored. This study conducted a survey to identify factors influencing user acceptance of KMS from this perspective. The result indicated that social presence, timeliness, knowledge understandability, task interdependence, and task uncertainty significantly affect a user's attitude toward KMS. Additionally, interpersonal influences significantly influence a user's subjective norm, and knowledge self-efficacy also has a significant impact on perceived behavioural control. Ultimately, a user's intention is significantly affected by his/her attitude, subjective norm, and perceived behavioural control. Finally, implications and recommendations are also discussed.
