Abstract

The micro, small and medium tourist enterprises (MSMEs) have an organisational structure that restricts their adaptative capabilities to a highly competitive environment. The purpose of this article is to present, from a systems science approach, a construct specific for MSMEs based on the complementarity concept. The soft systems methodology (SSM) was used to diagnose and structure the problem, detect elements of impact as well as to suggest plausible actions for change. The analytic hierarchy process (AHP) was used to validate the conceptual model. In this sense, consistency values above 90% were obtained for the construct's components. Based on this, the construct corresponds to the environment in which the studied organisations operate. The relations in the proposed construct seek to propose what heterogeneous characteristics integrate for fostering responsive and adaptative capabilities to the context.
