Abstract

A leader does not only count on good intellectuals, but also on proper emotional and spiritual capabilities. This study aims to describe how spiritual leadership is applied, as well as its impacts on the managers' performance. This study used a qualitative method of phenomenology with a case study approach at PT Telkom Indonesia. The primary data in this study were obtained by using an interview technique with two interviewees, who are the current and former area managers. The result showed that the leaders of PT Telkom Indonesia took the training of spirituality and has been implementing the spiritual principles in management function besides cultural activity in the organisation with the spirit of the Islamic context. By having a strong spiritual ability, the managers are able to manage and control the employees easily, specifically in their integrity and work ethic, which leads to high performance based on sincerity. Additionally, it can shift the work orientation, from material and transactional oriented into sincere-oriented that prioritised totality and doing the best.
