Abstract

The main object of the present paper consists of attempting to build another approach to rank developed countries, focusing on their commitment to contribute in the development of poor countries. The Center for Global Development publishes yearly a score entitled 'Commitment to Development Index': CDI. The prime object of the score is to summarise the efforts exerted by rich countries to help developing countries. The paper shines a light on a rigorous methodology to assess the significance of the efforts provided to help poor countries. It consists of examining the efficiency of the commitment provided by rich countries, considering the several fields assumed affecting directly the economic development of poor countries and included in calculating the CDI. The new classification relied on the efficiency of measures adopted by rich countries to improve economic and social situations in poor regions, and the empirical investigation has demonstrated apparent discrepancy in the ranking.
