Abstract

The process of formation and development of strategic alliances, due to its dynamic and evolutionary character, is a very interesting issue of research. Traditionally the aspects of process have been analysed independently by different !heories. Tbe objective of the paper is to analyse how the Theory Co-Evolutionary of Alliances proposed by Koza and Lewin (1998) contribute to its study. This evolutionary perspective explain, the secuency of steps that range from the firms decide to entry in a alliance to it finishs. AIso, it explain the adaptation of the agreement itself with the partners' strategies and with the connection to environment. The analysis of the triple interconnection –the evolution of alliance, the evolution of the partners and the development of the environment- is the main contribution of the paper, and lead to a constant renewal of the initial conditions that allow the success of alliances.
