The development cooperation policies of multilateral organizations and the European Union (EU) emphasize essentially the role of social entrepreneurship or Non-Governmental Development Organizations (NGDOs) to achieve sustainable, equitable and participatory human and social developments in the developing countries. The study analyzes the trends in the development sector and the Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats (SWOT) position of the development sector in India. The findings indicate that the mission-centered civil society organizations with high strategic orientation hold the key for achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and ensuring a vibrant civil society to voice for the marginalized sections of the society in developing countries like India.
