Abstract

In this paper an attempt is made to analyze the productivity trends of 14 major states and all India textile industry for pre and post liberalization periods using Divisia total factor productivity index methodology. The results reveal that for most of the states the TFP growth rates are relatively lower than pre-liberalization period for the textiles and manufacture of textile products industries. For most of the states the TFP growth rates are negative in post reforms period in textile. Further, it shown that one of the major findings is that out of eight probable factors, the coefficient of the relative degree concentration (output/number of factories) is positive and a significant factor contributing to productivity in all the states.
