Abstract

This paper discusses the wide spread feelings persisting among the women towards the preference of male child at birth, education and employment in the rural areas of the state of Orissa. But it is evident from the present exercise that the male child preferred by women is narrowing down when they are entering into micro entrepreneurships. Thus, encouraging women to micro entrepreneurship could bring a change in attitude of rural women and help them in bridging the gender gap in the family and the society
