Abstract

The objective of this research is to show the influence of migration in Mexico´s economic growth. We review the history of migration. We found that international migration and the remittances generated by these people to their home country are the main political issues. This is based on the results of a crosssectional econometric model implemented on a sample of 32 entities of the Mexican Republic. We use variables GDP, remittances, average schooling and unemployment population. Assessing the impact of international migration on economic growth through remittances, we found that money shipment doesn’t increase the country´s economic growth. However, these remittances that migrants send to their country of origin serve as a palliative for local poverty, not as a solution to the national problem.
