Abstract

Professionalization is a major step in the management of family businesses because it allows the transition from empirical through professional management with the application of techniques and tools making these organizations more competitive. The present study aims to determine the factors that influence as a competitive professionalization of family businesses in the industrial sector of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, considering that the founders of family businesses are often people who have a high commitment and experience, but leave out the professionalization of management, regardless of whether their survival may depend on this factor. To determine the factors of professionalization we surveyed 117 family business owners who are registered with the Sistema de Informacion Empresarial Mexicano (SIEM) 2010 of Tijuana. We performed statistical analysis of data through SPSS 15.0 system, achieving as a result a scheme that shows the most important factors that directly affect the professionalization as a competitive factor.
