Abstract

This document explores results obtained from the Business Internationalization Program of the Institute of Foreign Trade of the State of Jalisco, Mexico (JALTRADE) and the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Occidente (ITESO). The goal is to provide tools, knowledge and advice for the sustained internationalization process of MSMEs. We do this through the application of a specific methodology, designed to support a reliable international provider management system. This system is based on three fundamental pillars: training, development of resources and capabilities and a key process management system for internationalization. The results show the effects in five small companies of different sectors, sizes and different degrees of progress in their internationalization process, located in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. The only common feature of these firms was the desire of their managers to seize opportunities in international markets. The results demonstrate the proposed methodology has a positive impact on the business development and the international performance of organizations. The results also demonstrate its flexible nature and suggest it as a strategy that can be replicated in other contexts
