Abstract

The economy in Mexico in recent years has been growing at small rates. The forecast for 2017 indicates a slowdown. In addition, employment mainly offers a precarious salary. For that reason, a significant percentage of the population is not thriving. This scenario demands, from the educational institutions, the formation of entrepreneurs. Young innovators are capable of creating companies that are sources of employment and wealth. In this sense, a case study was carried out in the city of San Quintin, Baja California. Our goal is to measure the entrepreneurial orientation of university students and to determine if the teaching-learning process applied helps in its development. The study was applied to a representative sample of local students. The results show that entrepreneurial orientation is at a medium level. However, despite an educational model that focuses on competencies, the results show that the development of entrepreneurial competences is not privileged. It constitutes an opportunity and a challenge in order that the educational institutions promote, through their graduates, regional development
