Abstract

Sustainable development implies an item is considered in all activities of the human being. Protecting the environment is a matter of concern, and we must be proactive. For this reason, there are many organizations agreeing to minimize environmental impact. Industry is an activity in which water and energy is consumed. Industrial companies are among the largest generators of air and water pollutants as well as greenhouse gases. CO2 emissions are one of the indicators that account for climate change. Furthermore, the impact on the planet is on many occasions greater than the benefit to our society. Therefore, the present research seeks to analyze the impact that consumption has had on Mexico, as an aspect to consider in the planning of sustainable development of the country. This research is descriptive with time series and crosssectional data based on the comparative report World Commission on Environment and Development. Statistical information from INEGI, World Bank, and others was used. This study points to one of the many aspects that impact the environment as well as the aggregate demand that represents a high cost in ecological footprint. In addition, the consequences of sustainable development, within society, are noted
