Abstract

This research aims to describe and analyze innovation in small and medium-sized manufacturing companies located in Puebla, Mexico. The central question is: what are the determinants of innovation in small and medium-sized enterprises? This research is descriptive in which a documentary technique was applied and field data examined. The documentary technique allowed gathering information to expose the theoretical aspects of innovation underpinning the study. The field technique allowed us to be in direct contact with the object of study. We completed a survey of 22 small and medium-sized enterprises which allowed to confront theory and practice. The findings show, the concept of innovation was present in 33% of medium-sized companies. Some 30% of small companies responded that it refers to the introduction of new products; 24% of small and 34% of the medium have had changes in packing materials
