Struktur der Arbeitslosigkeit im Frühjahr 2000 : Suchverhalten und Eingliederungschancen (Structure of unemployment in spring 2000 : search behaviour and integration prospects)
"The paper focuses on the development of an index for the intensity of unemployed individuals' search behaviour and on the contribution of search behaviour to explaining empirically determined reintegration prospects. The analyses are based on a survey of 20,000 people, half of whom were from the stock of unemployed and half from the workers leaving the unemployment register. The activity index was constructed from several dimensions. These include the type of jobsearch and the degree of personal initiative, the intensity of the search and the number of applications in the previous three months of registration as unemployed. The evaluations bring to light different groups with different search intensities. In a descriptive section these different search intensities are examined in association with respondents' regional and social characteristics. A summarising multivariate model explicates the key factors that have an effect on the degree of search intensity. In particular the duration of unemployment and health limitations have a negative influence on the intensity of the job-search, whilst the receipt of benefits in accordance with the Social Code III have a positive effect on the search activities."
