Abstract

Regionale Integration wird trrotz multilateraler Liberalisierung im Ramhen der Welthandelsorgansiation (WTO) von vielen Lõndern weiter vorangetrieben. Dieser Beitrag beschõftigt sich mit den dynamischen Effekten einer nordatlantischen Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft (North Atlantic Economic Community - NATEC) zwischen EU und NAFTA. Analysiert werden Auswrikungen auf die Mitgliedslõnder und auf Drittstaaten. Bei den hier untersuchten dynamichen Effekten handelt es sich um 1.) die Vorteile zunehmender Produktdifferenzierung, 2.) die Realisierung steigender Skalenertrõge durch einen vergr÷▀erten Markt, 3.) Wettbewerbswirkungen auf Produzenten und Konusmenten und 4.) die Wirkungen vermehrter Investitionstõtigkeit als Reaktion auf den gr÷▀eren zollfreien Binnenmarkt. Den aus der Theorie zu erwartenden Auswirkungen (potentielle Wachstumsgewinne) wird eine quantitative Abschõtzung der Effekte einer nordatlantischen Handelsliberalisierung gegen³bergestellt. Abschlie▀end wird die bestehende Diskrepanz in den Ergebnissen des theoretischen und empirischen Teils kommentiert und Implikationen f³r die Handelspolitik abgeleitet.
