Abstract

Med Hector Estrups død den 2. oktober 2016 mistede dansk økonomi en tænker, der var helt sin egen. Han var på mange måder det modsatte af, hvad der er mo-derne i økonomien for øjeblikket. Hvor det i dag drejer sig om at publicere flest mulige artikler i internationale tidsskrifter med specifikke matematiske eller stati-stiske resultater, så var Hectors interesse at analysere fagets fundament. Det var i høj grad de basale forudsætninger, alle andre tog for givne, som han tænkte over og skrev om. Og han var ret uinteresseret i, hvor det blev publiceret. Bortset fra en enkelt tidsskriftartikel og disputatsen har han ikke skrevet på engelsk. Resten af produktionen er på dansk. Og det var ikke, fordi han, som visse økonomer, gik ud i den offentlige debat og blev journalistisk; jeg tror ikke, han nogensinde har skrevet en artikel i dagspressen.
