Abstract

The objective of this work is to analyze the relationship between the value of a statistical life (VSL) and the age of Brazilians. By data from the Annual Social Information Report for the years 2012 to 2015, the rates of fatal and non-fatal accidents at work for different age groups are used, in order to estimate the hedonic wage function adapted for these groups. The results show that the relationship between VSL and age in Brazil goes against the evidence in the literature, corroborating with peculiar estimates of VSL over the life cycle in the same direction.
