Abstract

This paper investigated the relation between subjectivity and work safety in the maintenance sector of a large mining company. It was found out that the experience with a mutual help group might be used as instrument to improve work safety. A mutual help group called Programa Hoje Não (Today-No Program), made up of 35 workers from the maintenance sector was studied. The methods employed were interviews following the models of work psychodynamics and psychosociology, besides work clinic and ergonomic work analysis. Due to the techniques of "Today-No Program", the number of accidents was reduced to figures never reached in eleven years.
