Le potenzialit? del turismo religioso nel Mezzogiorno

Abstract

La capacit? del turismo religioso di attrarre sia turisti che pellegrini ha generato una forte crescita negli ultimi decenni. Secondo i dati dell?organizzazione mondiale del Turismo WTO, il turismo religioso rappresenta circa il 30% del turismo globale, muovendo 300 milioni di persone all?anno per una spesa di 18 miliardi di dollari. Nell?accezione moderna, il pellegrino pu? essere escursionista se visita una localit? religiosa senza soggiornarvi o turista se associa almeno una notte di soggiorno. Il turismo religioso ? considerato un macrosistema in cui far rientrare il turista in sen-so stretto e il pellegrino. Nocifora definisce nel 2010 il turismo religioso come la pratica turistica che ha come meta luoghi che hanno una forte connotazione religiosa ma la cui motiva-zione ? eminentemente culturale e/o spirituale, oppure naturalistica, o a carattere etico/ sociale, ma non religiosa in senso stretto. Le mete pi? famose di turismo religioso sono Pompei, Citt? del Vaticano e Santiago de Compostela. La via Francigena potrebbe avere un forte sviluppo, come ? risultato per il Cammino verso Santiago de Compostela.
