Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the income composition in rural households in Brazil between 1992 and 2001. Non-farm income and regional disparities are emphasized. The main result indicates a tendency towards income diversification, mostly due to the increase of income provided by the system of social security, as retirement pensions, widely extended to agricultural workers after 1992.
