Impacto de la Covid-19 en la seguridad energética de América del Norte

Abstract

La industria petrolera y gasera de Estados Unidos ha sido impactada negativamente por la pandemia de la Covid-19, a raíz del desplome de los precios del barril del petróleo que provocó a nivel internacional. Las medidas que fueron tomadas para contener la propagación de la enfermedad impactaron la movilidad mundial que, a su vez, generó la disminución del consumo mundial de petróleo. Esto ha afectado los ritmos de producción y con ello la oferta futura de los hidrocarburos producidos en Estados Unidos. De ahí el interés en analizar sus consecuencias sobre el comercio transfronterizo de energía de Estados Unidos con sus dos vecinos próximos: Canadá y México. De tener un efecto adverso sobre el comercio energético, la pandemia ciertamente estaría influyendo en la seguridad energética de América del Norte y en el proyecto geopolítico de los hidrocarburos no convencionales o petróleo y gas sale.
