Investeringen, desinvesteringen, en relocaties door multinationale ondernemingen.Een studie van Japanse ondernemingen in Zuidoost Azië
Abstract
Dit artikel analyseert de omvang en karakteristieken van nieuwe investeringen en desinvesteringen door Japanse multinationale ondernemingen in de elektronica industrie in de landen van Zuidoost Azië. De analyse laat een belangrijke mate van turbulentie in investeringspatronen zien welke veroorzaakt wordt door veranderingen in loonkostenontwikkeling van de verschillende landen en een afnemende concurrentiekracht van Japanse ondernemingen in een aantal productmarkten. De desinvesteringsratio van productievestigingen in de periode 1995-1998 lag gemiddeld op 9 procent, terwijl in de ‘nieuw geïndustrialiseerde landen‘ (Taiwan, Hongkong, Singapore, en Zuid Korea) 14 tot 17 procent van de productievestigingen gesloten werden. Desinvesteringen kwamen minder voor naarmate de investerende onderneming en de vestiging groter waren, de vestiging recenter was, en de onderneming een grotere participatie in de vestiging had. Relocaties van productieactiviteiten maken vooral in een meer recente periode (1999-2002) een belangrijk deel van de desinvesteringen uit, waarbij China het gastland is dat het overgrote deel van de gereloceerde productieactiviteiten aantrekt. De aantrekkingskracht van China en de door continue concurrentiedruk veroorzaakte verdere rationalisatie van productievestingen in de regio, lijken negatieve economische gevolgen te hebben voor landen met een relatief hoog loonkostenniveau (Maleisië) of een verslechterend investeringsklimaat (Indonesië).Download Info
