Abstract

Este artigo aborda algumas considerações sobre as categorias sociais (como gênero, geração, classe social, raça / etnia, etc.) no contexto de interações interculturais promovidas pela vivência turística. Considerando que o turismo é um interessante objeto de estudo, quando entendido como uma atividade que promove o confronto de diferentes identidades culturais através de relações sociais "efêmeras", buscamos aprofundar as reflexões sobre como as identidades sociais são fundamentais para a análise do fenômeno do turismo. Essas se demonstram centrais, especialmente no que diz respeito as conexões estabelecidas entre a população local e os visitantes, o que vêm a moldar aquilo que é conhecido como experiência turística. Nesse sentido, realizamos uma discussão teórica versando sobre o turismo, as categorias sociais e o imaginário social, a fim de demonstrar a importância dos planejadores de turismo e profissionais em geral refletirem sobre as identidades dos sujeitos sociais envolvidos na prática turística. Tais reflexões se destinam a subsidiar uma melhor compreensão da atividade com vistas ao seu desenvolvimento responsável.
