Abstract

O artigo analisa o programa Summer Work & Travel, que se realiza nos Estados Unidos. Abordam-se as motivações e as reais contribuições percebidas para os intercambistas brasileiros, considerando que há possíveis inadequações da proposta do programa em relação às expectativas dos participantes. A pesquisa de campo, de natureza qualitativa, descritiva e exploratória, foi por meio de entrevistas a gestores de agências especializadas e de aplicações de questionário a 107 intercambistas, além de observação participante, por meio de imersão na experiência. Apesar da satisfação da maioria, há inadequações de ofertas de programas. É necessário adequá-las às reais expectativas e melhorar os serviços nos destinos das viagens. A tipologia do perfil define o intercambista como meso-alocêntrico a alocêntrico, tem autonomia, é explorador de novas culturas e de novos lugares. Renda, tempo e preços são fundamentais, mas os fatores ambientais e a qualidade dos serviços de hospitalidade são determinantes para realizar a viagem.
