Abstract

A pesar de la importancia uso de los pesticidas en los cultivos; su manejo inadecuado genera riesgos para la salud humana y la salud ambiental. Estas problemáticas se acrecientan debido a la exposición sistemática a estos agentes químicos sin tomar en cuenta el equipo mínimo de protección personal; por ello, los trabajadores que intervienen en mezclar, cargar, transportar y aplicar los pesticidas reciben la mayor exposición por la naturaleza de su trabajo y son el grupo de mayor riesgo de presentar intoxicación aguda y efectos a largo plazo. La exposición ocupacional a pesticidas reviste una importancia central al impactar directamente en la salud e indirectamente en la economía, así mismo, su evaluación se encuentra opacada por la dificultad técnica y la alta especialidad necesaria para identificar la exposición a sustancias y mezclas, por ello se utilizó la técnica de trazadores fluorescentes para la identificación semicuantitativa de pesticidas; esta técnica permite al involucrado en el manejo de pesticidas ver regiones de su cuerpo que estuvieron en contacto con el pesticida y con ello identificar el riesgo que representa el uso inadecuado o nulo del material de protección personal. La implementación de la técnica se llevó a cabo a través de talleres de capacitación con trabajadores involucrados en la aplicación de pesticidas en el cultivo de caña donde se simulo una faena de preparación y aplicación de pesticidas usando agua destilada y el trazador fluorescente Tinopal CBS-X.
