Abstract

El proceso de democratización iniciado a mediados de la década del ‘70 en Europa del Sur, y que se extendiera luego a América Latina y Europa del Este durante los decenios siguientes, despertó el particular interés en el estudio de la democracia como régimen político, foco de investigación hasta ese momento abordado tanto en clave desarrollista como así también revolucionaria en el marco de transformaciones estructurales “más profundas”. El interés inicial se había trastocado en optimismo generalizado sobre las capacidades y potencialidades de la democracia, en tanto reflejo de un generalizado consenso tanto en los círculos académicos como en el propio ámbito político.
