La autonomia universitaria que fraguó. El caso de la unica universidad pública de Guatemala

Abstract

Estudiantes, profesorado y personal administrativo de la Universidad San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC) llevan más de 300 días ocupando los centros educativos del país. Protestan contra el fraude electoral a la rectoría, el último capítulo en la pérdida de autonomía de la universidad. Pero esto es solo la punta del iceberg. Fue la gota que colmó el vaso en un país donde casi el 60% de la población vive por debajo del umbral de la pobreza, únicamente el 4% puede acceder a la educación superior y menos del 1% obtiene un postgrado. El presente artículo repasa a través de la recopilación de testimonios de la USAC, una muestra más de la pérdida de autonomía de las universidades públicas de América Latina, cada vez más débil a casusa de la cooptación por parte de la corrupción, las mafias y las oligarquías, en este caso concreto, en Guatemala.
