Transformaciones socioeconómicas en zonas de influencia del primer proyecto minero a gran escala en Ecuador

Abstract

Desde 1972 Ecuador ha basado su economía en la renta de los recursos naturales no renovables, específicamente del petróleo. A partir de 2012, el país consolida su modelo primario exportador con la incursión hacia la minería a gran escala. Desde entonces, el proyecto cuprífero “Mirador†, se ha convertido en el proyecto de minería industrial de mayor avance de la nación. En esta investigación se documentan los efectos económicos generados por este proyecto en sus à reas de Influencia. La metodología utilizó técnicas cualitativas y cuantitativas como encuestas, entrevistas, y observación directa. Los resultados muestran que la principal fuente de movimiento económico de las áreas de influencia sigue estando ligada a la ganadería; sin embargo, existen cambios en la composición de la Población Económicamente Activa de la zona, pasando de las tradicionales actividades agropecuarias a labores ligadas a la minería. Además, la mayoría de los empleados encuestados, considera que la minera desencadenó una mejora de la situación económica.
