El traspatio: auto dependencia alimentaria en la vivienda tradicional entre Nahuas y Teneeks en la Huasteca Potosina

Abstract

El traspatio es conocido también como jardín tradicional, patio, parcela doméstica, huerto, solar. En muchas culturas del mundo principalmente en la vivienda rural se hace uso del área circundante a la vivienda, produciendo en ella, a pequeña escala, alimentos tanto plantas como animales de corral (frutales, plantas de ornato, aromáticas y medicinales, aves, cerdos, pequeños rumiantes, roedores), que en conjunto otorgan abundantes aportaciones a la familia (productos y subproductos sanos y frescos, salud, ingresos económicos, esparcimiento familiar). Este conocimiento empírico tiene raíces ancestrales y se trasmiten en el seno de la comunidad, principalmente dirigidos a iniciativa de la mujer y en torno a la vivienda tradicional que por su tipología y dimensionamiento en el ámbito rural lo permite aún, y es un claro componente de la sostenibilidad de la vivienda tradicional al colaborar con la autonomía y auto-dependencia alimentaria de sus usuarios. En este artículo se describen los resultados analizados en torno al indicador de sostenibilidad denominado Auto-dependencia alimentaria ASA utilizando el método Oktay Hoskara (2009), aplicado en 82 viviendas de un universo de 607 en 10 localidades indígenas -nahuas y teneeks- de la Huasteca Potosina.
