Estudios de Derecho en Cuba hasta 1959

Abstract

En Cuba se ha enseñado Derecho a lo largo de su historia. La Universidad de La Habana abrió sus puertas en 1728, situándose la carrera de Derecho como una de sus fundadoras; esta institución se secularizó en 1842; para principios del Siglo XX sus planes de estudio estuvieron influenciados por el positivismo. Se impartió Derecho Civil y Canónico en el Seminario de San Basilio (1722) fundado en Santiago de Cuba. De igual modo en el Seminario de San Carlos y San Ambrosio se ofrecieron asignaturas de porte jurídico y se estableció la Cátedra de Constitución (1820) por Félix Varela. Padres agustinos procedentes de Estados Unidos crearon la Universidad Santo Tomás de Villanueva (1946), en las aulas de este centro educativo se graduaron profesionales del Derecho. Las universidades de Oriente (1946) y Las Villas (1947) contribuyeron al ingreso de nuevos estudiantes a la carrera consolidando así el desarrollo de la enseñanza del Derecho en el país.
