Evolución del sistema financiero popular y solidario y su aporte a la integración financiera en el Ecuador

Abstract

La presente investigación tiene como objetivo analizar la evolución que ha tenido el Sistema Financiero Popular y Solidario (SFPS) en el Ecuador durante el periodo 2012-2018, e identificar el aporte ofrecido a la inclusión financiera en el país, a través de la creación de la Superintendencia de Economía Popular y Solidaria (SEPS). Metodología: se aplicó un análisis financiero de variaciones, tasa de crecimiento promedio y tendencias para determinar el crecimiento y participación del SFPS. Resultados: A diciembre del 2018, el sector se encuentra integrado por 602 cooperativas de ahorro y crédito, una caja central, cuatro asociaciones de ahorro y crédito para la vivienda y una corporación. Las 608 entidades que conforman el sector representan a 6,89 millones de socios, con una suma de USD 14. 011 millones en activos, USD 11. 956 millones en pasivos y USD 2 049 millones en patrimonio, las cooperativas de ahorro y crédito (COACs) han consolidado su participación en el mercado, pasando de representar un 14.67% a un 53.21% de todo el sistema financiero nacional en el periodo analizado. Conclusiones: pese al efecto sistémico adverso, las cooperativas tuvieron un crecimiento anual compuesto promedio de 26,7% una cifra sustancialmente superior al crecimiento de todo el Sistema Financiero Nacional (SFN).
