Políticas públicas para a expansão da utilização do gás natural na geração termelétrica do Brasil

Abstract

A geração termoelétrica foi fomentada por políticas públicas que visavam ancorar a expansão da oferta de gás natural no Brasil e complementar a geração hidroelétrica, mas o parque térmico vem desempenhando um papel mais amplo do que este, embora o suprimento de gás continue sendo um gargalo no país. Neste contexto, este artigo objetiva discutir o papel das políticas públicas na oferta de gás natural e na expansão do parque térmico, considerando os desafios e oportunidades correlatos. Com base em experiências internacionais, os resultados apontam que novos instrumentos regulatórios devem enfrentar ambos os desafios e potencializar a geração térmica, com eficiência crescente.
