El turismo médico odontológico en el Ecuador como nueva oferta exportable de servicios no tradicionales para fomento y desarrollo de la economía nacional

Abstract

El turismo médico se refiere a cuando los pacientes viajan al extranjero con el propósito de obtener atención médica que no es de emergencia. Dentro del turismo médico se deriva el turismo dental, que este se da cuando las personas buscan atención odontológica fuera de sus sistemas de salud locales. Cada día aumentan las personas que no dudan en subirse a un avión para viajar a otro país a operarse o a hacerse exámenes médicos, debido a que no cuentan con tratamientos completos y los costos de estos son demasiado altos. Generalmente el turismo dental se da de países de altos ingresos como EE. UU., Canadá y Europa hacia las economías en desarrollo alimentando de tal forma el turismo médico, pues en estos países el servicio de odontología es más económico.
