Crescimento econômico e emissões de dióxido de carbono: a hipótese da Curva de Kuznets Ambiental para o Brasil (1970 – 2011)

Abstract

O objetivo desse artigo é estabelecer se há evidencias empíricas para a Curva de Kuznets Ambiental (CKA) para o caso brasileiro. A ideia central da CKA baseia-se na relação entre degradação ambiental e o nível de desenvolvimento econômico do país ao longo do tempo. Para isso, foi estimada uma regressão cúbica no intuito de encontrar indícios da relação entre renda per capita e emissões de dióxido de carbono ( no formato de U-invertido como estabelecido nos trabalhos pioneiro de Grossman e Krueger (1991; 1995). O período de análise compreende-se de 1970 a 2011. Os dados utilizados estão disponíveis na database do Banco Mundial (World Bank). Percebe-se que há evidências para tal hipótese no caso brasileiro. Contudo, no longo prazo, essa relação tende a inverter-se.
