A inserção da Amazônia brasileira na economia mundial e as implicações sobre a sustentabilidade regional

Abstract

O presente artigo visa, sobretudo, mostrar a gênese histórica dos interesses econômicos mundiais sobre os recursos ambientais e humanos da Amazônia Brasileira desde o período do mercantilismo europeu, passando pelas profundas influências das transformações econômicas, políticas e sociais europeias nos Séculos XVIII e XIX, quando a borracha amazônica passou a ser um produto comercializável e, por fim, entre os anos de 1960 e 1990, a partir de projetos intervencionistas do Estado Ditatorial Brasileiro, bem como por influência do receituário neoliberal nos anos de 1990. Além disso, pela região apresentar a maior megabiodiversidade global, tem recebido hoje especial atenção para exploração de recursos estratégicos, como petróleo e gás natural na Região do Médio Solimões-AM. Eis um passo necessário para a reflexão da sustentabilidade regional: considerar os aspectos históricos de intervenções econômicas na Amazônia Brasileira.
