San Bartolo Coyotepec, municipio conurbado de la ciudad de Oaxaca de Juárez. Producción artesanal y su influencia en el Desarrollo Local

Abstract

Existen varias versiones sobre el origen de la localidad, una de ellas le confiere un origen prehispánico debido a una serie de vestigios arqueológicos hallados en el lugar, los cuales denotan su existencia desde tiempos inmemoriales. Antiguamente su nombre fue Tzabeche, del zapoteco tza, muchos, beche o vetche, tigre, es decir, “lugar de muchos tigres”, o Coyotepec, del náhuatl coyotl, coyote, pec, lugar o colina, es decir, “colina de los coyotes”. En la primera expedición española a Oaxaca en 1521 fue nombrado “San Jacinto Leontepec”, San Jacinto “Colina de los Leones”.
