Reforestación con especies forestales nativas para la conservación y protección de los recursos hídricos, provincia de Esmeraldas, Ecuador

Abstract

La deforestación en la provincia de Esmeraldas es una problemática de importancia en los sistemas ambientales, socioculturales y económicos. Cada año se destruyen entre 10.000 a 25.000 hectáreas de bosque primario, esto es del 2 al 5 % de todos los bosques que quedan en la provincia. Estas cifras son la última fase de un proceso que empezó a principio del siglo XX relacionado con la expansión demográfica y luego continua con el boom cacaotero y bananero, sumándose la aparición de la industria del camarón en los años de ochenta, actividades que son las causas principales de la deforestación en la provincia de Esmeraldas y que la diferencian de otras provincias de la costa ecuatoriana.
