Abstract

Los suelos Ferralíticos Rojos Lixiviados (FRL) (Nitisol Ródico-Éutrico) de la comunidad de Banao provincia Sancti Spiritus, (Cuba) han estado dedicados a la producción de la cebolla (Allium cepa L) por más de un siglo, dado lugar a la degradación antrópica. Partiendo de esta problemática se han estudiado tres perfiles de los suelos FRL, con diferentes manejos: (desde condiciones en arboleda permanente, suelo cultivado, tras su puesta en pastoreo durante los últimos 10 años, hasta suelos intensamente cultivados durante 20 años. Se determinaron los cambios que ocurren en las propiedades físicas de este tipo de suelo, principalmente por el color, textura, densidad del suelo, porosidad, capacidad de campo, índice de agregado y materia orgánica. Los resultados permitieron elaborar una hipótesis sobre el mecanismo de degradación del suelo por el tipo de manejo, reflejado en el empeoramiento de las propiedades físicas del suelo.
