Teorema de imposibilidad de Sraffa

Abstract

En 1968 el economista Carlo Felice Manara intentó un procedimiento algebraico mediante el cual crear una matriz triangular de la matriz de requerimientos tal que los elementos de las submatrices por debajo (o por encima) de la diagonal principal fueran iguales a cero. Con ello se pretendía avanzar tanto en la búsqueda de una matriz irreducible como el de construir un sistema que cumpliera los requisitos de Sraffa de diferenciación entre bienes básicos y no básicos. En lo que sigue se demostrará que el intento fallido del economista italiano no se debe sólo a un planteamiento erróneo sino a que no es posible encontrar un procedimiento algebraico que separe bienes básicos de los no básicos de acuerdo con los criterios de Sraffa si la matriz de requerimientos primitiva no es ya triangular. Porque, de serlo, ya no sería necesario ningún procedimiento de triangulización.
