¿Y si Cantor estuviera equivocado?

Abstract

Este artículo viene a cuento sobre algunas de las cuestiones planteadas en la última parte del publicado en el número de JUNIO 1995 de la revista INVESTIGACIÓN Y CIENCIA con el título de BREVE HISTORIA DEL INFINITO y, simultáneamente, cuestiona modestamente algunos de los paradigmas más consolidados de la matemática del infinito. De hecho en la primera parte se plantea un método de recuento de los números reales que resulta contradictorio con la consideración cantoriana del conjunto de los números reales como conjunto no enumerable (al menos desde algún punto de vista); en la segunda se aborda lo que llamaríamos el de "la inconsistencia del método de Cantor", para pasar a la última parte -junto con las nota 4- donde se hacen algunas consideraciones e implicaciones del abandono del paradigma. El fin último del artículo es señalar el grado de insatisfacción que nos encontramos los que nos acercamos desde otras disciplinas a los fundamentos de las Matemáticas.
