La Sociedad de la Información y el Conocimiento: implicancias para América Latina

Abstract

En la década del setenta surge una nueva realidad mundial caracterizada por el fenómeno de la Revolución Científica y Tecnológica Mundial, y la conformación de un nuevo paradigma tecno-productivo y de la Sociedad de la Información y el Conocimiento. En esta nueva realidad, el conocimiento y la investigación se transforman en factores estratégicos para propiciar el desarrollo de los países y mejorar su posición en la nueva división internacional del trabajo. A partir de la definición y caracterización de este contexto, en el presente artículo se evalúa la situación de América Latina. Se realiza una descripción del comportamiento y las políticas de CyT implementadas por la región a partir de las reformas estructurales de carácter neoliberal, y se estudian las consecuencias de estas políticas por medio de un análisis con indicadores estadísticos que permiten comparar la situación de la región frente a los países industrializados.
