Abstract

Um dos desafios do período recente é a tentativa de se combinar políticas públicas de assentamentos de famílias de trabalhadores rurais em “vazios demográficos†como a Amazônia brasileira, de tal forma que se possa preservar suas riquezas e potencias biogenéticos e ambientais. Ante ao exposto, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar as implicações ambientais do processo de assentamentos na região Amazônica, na escalada do desmatamento da referida região. Ou seja, em que medida os assentamentos colaboram para ascensão ou mitigação do desflorestamento amazônico? Para inferirmos respostas sobre a questão fundamentaremos nossas conclusões em autoridades no tema como, Pasquis et al. (2001), Becker (1998), Loureiro (1992), Margulis (2001; 2003) e Miranda Neto (1991).
