La Dimensión Social De Los Mass Media. Medios Alternativos: Creando Conciencia Social Para El Desarrollo

Abstract

Este artículo reflexiona sobre la necesidad de la movilización social a través de los medios de comunicación, ya que estos constituyen en muchos casos un modo de homogeneización del pensamiento social. Así, esta ponencia saca a la luz, una investigación que muestra cómo tres medios de comunicación alternativos han conseguido visibilizar temáticas sociales normalmente invisibilizadas por otros muchos medios. Concretamente en México, en un contexto social donde la violencia ha conseguido determinar la actitud y el contenido de los medios de comunicación, tres medios (Proceso, Contralínea y CIMAC) han sacado a la luz temáticas y noticias invisibilizadas por la mayoría. De este modo, estos tres medios están consiguiendo movilizar socialmente a la población al informarla sobre todo tipo de sucesos de temáticas tan duras como el narcotráfico o el feminicidio de Ciudad Juárez. Con ello, el conocimiento alimenta la acción social, y ésta, fundamentada en la crítica, permite mejorar los mecanismos democráticos basados en el derecho a la información de la población civil.
