En Torno A La Historia Temprana De Jiguaní. Algunas Precisiones Necesarias

Abstract

En este trabajo se realiza un análisis crítico de los datos existentes en torno a la historia temprana del pueblo de San Pablo de Jiguaní, en la región oriental de Cuba, y como han sido manejados por los diversos historiadores que han abordado la historia de esta localidad. Específicamente se estudian tres cuestiones: la fundación del pueblo y de la parroquia, la concesión del título de Villa, y la constitución del primer Cabildo o Ayuntamiento. Se demuestra la endeble base factual de diversas fechas conmemorativas consagradas por la tradición, y la necesidad de continuar investigando a profundidad, sometiendo a crítica las fuentes bibliográficas existentes, y priorizando las fuentes primarias.
