Violencia Autoinfligida En La Frontera Norte: Un Problema De Salud Pública Caso Municipio De Mexicali, Baja California, México

Abstract

El presente artículo tiene como objetivo caracterizar la mortalidad por suicidios en el Estado de Baja California, identificando los principales cambios en los métodos de suicidio y en la estructura por edades y sexos de los casos que se han presentado a escala regional de la frontera norte de México. Dentro de este estudio se utilizaron como fuentes de información los registros oficiales de muerte violenta del Servicio Médico Forense (SEMEFO) durante el periodo de 1999 a 2005. Estos datos permitieron calcular las tasas de mortalidad utilizando para éste proceso las poblaciones estimadas por el Consejo Nacional de Población (CONAPO), describiendo la mortalidad por sexo, por grupo de edad y por zona del municipio en estudio, así como los cambios observados en las tasas y los métodos de suicidio en el periodo estudiado. Debido a la complejidad del tema en la zona observada el alcance del estudio se limita al nivel descriptivo.
