Abstract

Cienfuegos, es la provincia que irrumpe como pionera en la proyección y tradición coral en el país. Desde la década del 20 se destacó por el desarrollo coral que el Padre Urtiaga fomentara a través de la conformación del soberbio coro de la Catedral de Cienfuegos que fue conocido y reconocido por sus maravillosas interpretaciones tanto dentro como fuera de la Provincia y que posteriormente se convirtiera en el coro profesional de Cienfuegos; (primero en el país). Además de conformar una coral infantil de voces triples que fue causa de admiración de cuantos la escucharon. Desde entonces el trabajo coral en Cienfuegos trascendió convirtiéndose en una necesidad para sus pobladores y un sello que la distinguió en la provincia por años hasta la actualidad. Es objetivo de este trabajo entonces, dar a conocer, mediante la historia del movimiento coral en nuestro país y específicamente en la provincia de Cienfuegos, cómo se mantiene vigente este movimiento como tradición y elemento identitario en nuestra Ciudad del Mar
