Abstract

Desde las primeras décadas los habitantes de la ciudad se preocuparon por tener medios de comunicación que, además de informar, ayudaran a la comunidad en su vida cotidiana. Fue así que en el año 1852 se implanto el primer taller tipográfico. El primer periódico se comenzó a imprimir el 2 de abril 1858 con el título de La hoja económica del Puerto de Sagua la Grande; con una frecuencia bisemanal, trató temas generales, dedicados referentemente al desarrollo económico y la instrucción de la sociedad. Durante el siglo XIX salieron a la luz más de 20 publicaciones periódicas diferentes y todas con un marcado interés en el progreso de la comunidad de Sagua la Grande, independientemente de su posición política
